Daily Board

Daily Board is an app specialized for tablet products. In the early days, it played the same role as a computer screensaver. When I took charge of this app, my task was to find meaningful user scenarios for the Daily Board, define key features, and install them on tablets.

User Needs

Through focus group interviews, it was found that users mainly wanted to use the Daily Board app in their personal space, especially at home. They did not want to expose their personal information to others, but wanted to access information quickly and use it in the form of a personalized board. They also wanted to increase productivity by installing a simple memo function. What was unique was that they wanted to see the weather information in the largest and coolest way possible.

Quick Access to Information

Users wanted easy access to essential information without the need to unlock their device fully. They hoped Daily Board app could display a customizable dashboard of important details such as date, time, weather, calendar events, and notifications at a glance.

Customizable Dashboard

Users required the ability to personalize the Daily Board with widgets or cards displaying various information sources or app shortcuts. This allows them to tailor the app to their preferences and needs.

Productivity

Some users used the Daily Board app to help them stay organized and productive. They expected features like calendar integration, to-do lists, and reminders to keep track of their daily tasks and appointments

Weather UpdateS

Access to up-to-date weather information was often a crucial requirement for users who used their tablet as a daily information hub. This could help them plan their day accordingly.

Ideation of User Scenarios

Based on the user's needs, I imagined a virtual usage scenario to derive a more specific and future-oriented scenario. I wrote down various scenarios imagining a user going about their day using the daily board app at home.

Scenario 1: "Morning Routine"

User Profile: Sarah, a working professional, starts her day using her Samsung Galaxy Tab as a central information hub.

Sarah wakes up in the morning and picks up her Samsung Galaxy Tab from the bedside table. As she approaches the tablet, the Daily Board app's morning theme greets her with the date, time, and a beautiful sunrise background.
Sarah sees a widget displaying the local weather forecast, helping her decide what to wear for the day.She taps the calendar widget and views her schedule for the day, making note of her meetings and appointments.

After reviewing her schedule and to-dos, Sarah swipes through the Daily Board to check for any important notifications, which are neatly displayed in a dedicated section.
Satisfied that she has all the essential information, Sarah goes about her morning routine feeling organized and prepared for the day.

Scenario 2: "Home Office Productivity"

User Profile: John, a remote worker, uses his Samsung Galaxy Tab to stay productive while working from home.

John sets up his Samsung Galaxy Tab on his home office desk.
He activates the Daily Board app in work mode, which displays a clean and minimalistic interface.
The app shows the current time and date, creating a focused work environment.
John sees his task list prominently displayed on the Daily Board, helping him stay on top of his work assignments.
He swipes to access the calendar widget to quickly check for any upcoming meetings or deadlines.
John uses the Daily Board's quick access buttons to launch productivity apps like Microsoft Teams and Google Docs.
Throughout the day, he glances at the Daily Board to track progress on his tasks and remain organized.

Scenario 3: "Evening Relaxation"

User Profile: Emily, a student, uses her Samsung Galaxy Tab for both productivity and relaxation. In the evening, Emily places her Samsung Galaxy Tab on a stand in her living room. She selects the evening theme in the Daily Board app, creating a cozy ambiance with a soothing background. She uses the Daily Board's music widget to play her favorite calming playlist.
As she winds down, Emily checks the weather widget to plan an outdoor activity for the next day. Before bed, she sets the Daily Board to a night mode, ensuring a peaceful night's sleep.
These virtual UX scenarios demonstrate how users with different needs and routines can utilize the Daily Board app on a Samsung Galaxy Tab to enhance their daily lives, whether it's for starting the day, boosting productivity, or unwinding in the evening. The app's customization and informative features play a key role in providing a tailored user experience.

Proposed Design

Finally, our team decided to implement a music player, weather, clock, calendar, and memo in the daily board app. Considering tablet usability, I increased readability by arranging information in large chunks and designed it in an ambient design style to subtly blend in with home interior. Additionally, a dark theme was designed to prevent glare at night.
