Samsung Pay

This project aims to  design a new payment service scenario recommending the most beneficial card among the credit cards owned by the user based on the location and business name when the user pays at the current member store. I researched Samsung Pay users in the Korean market to specify UX flows and the new concept scenarios.

Market Analysis

Korea has traditionally been an early adopter of new technologies including in-store mobile payments that debuted here between 2012 and 2013. The adoption of mobile payments took off when Samsung Pay was launched in 2015.

As adoption continues to grow, eMarketer expects 39.5 percent of smartphone users in Korea to pay with their mobile devices at a point of sale.

Samsung Pay currently dominates Korea’s local proximity mobile payment market, largely because most of the population uses Samsung Electronics’ smartphones, the newest models of which come with Samsung Pay built into them.

WHAT USERS SAY

Sungjin, 38

I'd love it if Samsung Pay could suggest credit cards tailored to my spending habits and preferences. It would be amazing if the app could recommend cards that match my needs, like cashback on dining or travel rewards based on my purchase history.

Gunwoo, 41

I find it really useful when apps like Samsung Pay analyze my transaction history. It would be great if it could use this data to recommend credit cards that align with my spending patterns. That way, I can make smarter choices about which card to use for different types of purchases

Sunjoo, 27

When I'm out shopping, it would be fantastic if Samsung Pay could suggest credit cards that offer discounts or special deals specifically at the store I'm in. That way, I can maximize my savings and rewards without having to search for offers myself.

Kiwon, 43

Having a built-in tool within Samsung Pay that lets me compare credit card offers and benefits would be a game-changer. It would save me a lot of time and help me make well-informed decisions about which card to use for specific transactions.

Hyunji, 35

When I walk into a store, I want Samsung Pay to send me real-time notifications with credit card offers or discounts that I can use immediately. The timing is crucial because it would allow me to take advantage of deals right when I need them.

User Personas

Proposed Design

I proceeded with the following design based on the results of the user interview.
First, when a user is at a nearby merchant, the credit card that offers the most benefit is shown when paying at that store.
It is also a concept that displays the benefits of the card in detail and shows how it benefits the consumer in order to help users achieve their planned goals.

Card Recomendation

Among the cards held by the user, card information that offers discounts at the current location is recommended. It also shows the discount rate and number of remaining benefits.

Group 3.jpg

Search Stores

When you search a specific area, information on nearby stores is displayed by category. It shows a summary of the card benefit information that matches each store.

Group 2.png

Spending History

It shows monthly card usage patterns. Displays total expenditure details, benefits used, and remaining performance information.

Card Management

You can add and delete cards on the card management page. A card list is recommended based on analyzed consumption patterns.
